Story Hour in the Ruth Youth Wing Library

One of the most popular features of the RUth Youth Wing is its library of illustrated children's books featuring one of the finest collections of its kind in the country. The books in the Library are selected for their design and the quality of their illustrations. Every two years, the Youth Wing presents an Israel Museum prize for the best illustrated children's book. Exposure to these books instills in young children an early appreciation for the art of illustration and proves their first encounters with visual creativity.

The Youth Wing Library attracts a large audience of parents and children who come to discover new books and to enjoy the many activities run by the Library each year, including exhibitions on the theme of illustration and get-togethers with leading illustrators and authors. The Library provides a source of fun, pleasure and inspiration for children and parents, a home away from home, for families to sit and read with their children in an attractive and comfortable envoronment.

One of the main activites of the Library is the story hour offering children aged 4-8 the opportunity to sit and listen to a professional story teller read them stories in a way that holds their attention and ignites their imagination. The story hour currently takes place every Tuesday afternoon when the Museum is open to the public, but we would now like to provide a story hour on Saturdays when many families visit the Museum. In order to upgrade our services for the public, the Museum extends free admittance to children on Saturdays, and the story hour will be a very welcome activity for visitors with young children, providing an additional incentive for families to visit.

Our goal is to offer a story hour twice on Saturdays, between 10am-2pm.
