A Program of the Meyerhoff Education Centre of the
Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Tel Aviv High School for the Arts
Sponsored by the British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel (BFAMI)
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art places great importance on art education programmes for Israeli youth. The Museum is committed to providing quality instruction in the visual arts to prepare students for higher education in the field and to enable Israeli youth to develop into mature art lovers and art consumers. With the support of the British Friends of the Art Museums of Israel (BFAMI) and in cooperation with the Tel Aviv High School for the Arts, the Museum is providing art education of the highest standard to youth who have demonstrated talent in art. The classes at the Museum are an integral part of the students’ high school studies.
Students are admitted to the Museum’s programme for youth gifted in the arts following an exam in drawing, painting and sculpture and following presentation of a portfolio of their work. The classes take place at the Tel Aviv Museum’s Meyerhoff Art Education Centre, and are designed to develop the students’ skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video art, and computer art, and to give them a background in art history and a familiarity with all aspects of museums of art.
Among the highlights of the current school year for the 93 participating students are:
- a mid-year student art exhibition
- a sculpture, photography and video project in conjunction with the dance department of the High School for the Arts
- visits to exhibitions at the Museum and at art galleries in Tel Aviv, as well as meetings with artists
- an art camp in March, giving the students the chance to collaborate on projects for three days and three nights
Many of the students pursue further studies at art colleges and academies in Israel and abroad. Some return to join the teaching staff of the Museum.
